Martina White took office after a 2015 Special Election to become the first non-incumbent Republican elected in the City of Philadelphia in a quarter-century.
Moving into 2016, White's re-election was anything but guaranteed with registration favoring Democrats better than 2-to-1 in this district and the GOP Presidential candidate trailing badly at the top of the ticket.
The opponent - Democrat Matt Darragh had labor support, as well as endorsements from leading Democrats including President Obama, Governor Wolf, Lt Governor Stack, Mayor Kenney and more. His race was extremely well-funded and a top target for the House Democrat Campaign Committee, the state Democratic Party, and powerful local labor unions.
Red Maverick Media served as White's General and Communications Consultant, overseeing campaign strategy, messaging development, and the delivery of message across direct mail, television, and digital and mobile media.
Red Maverick worked with the candidate and campaign manager to implement a strong ground operation while developing a strategy that blunted Darragh's constant attacks against White as being too Republican for the district by using his own issue positions against him. White's campaign delivered strong contrast defining Darragh as "too extreme" for the mass of voters in this heavily Democratic district; the campaign even included contrast on the issue of abortion, which would normally be a third-rail issue for a Republican in a district like this.
